net::MC, which is an abbreviation for Networks Management Center,
is a web-based application easing the day-to-day administrative
tasks in a heterogenous network environment running both Windows-
and Linux-based clients and servers maintaining a centralized
directory service. net::mc is freely available under the
GNU General Public License.
It has been developed for a LAMP server (linux, apache, mysql, and php4/5) providing a tool to manage the informations stored in a centralized ldap service like openldap2. These applications and services are spread widely and are maintained by the open-source community, which ensures further development. The decision using a web application has been made, because they are easy to use and usually available on almost any workstation computers.
net::MC provides management for
+ Posix host/user accounts and nested groups
+ Samba3 user, machine accounts, groups, and trusts
+ DHCP server with LDAP as backend
+ POWERDNS (http://www.powerdns.com)
+ LDAP2DNS (http://ldap2dns.tiscover.com)
+ Sendmail/Postfix accounts, aliases, and routing
+ Cyrus accounts and quota
+ LDAP directory service for address books
+ Simple Radius authentication
These information are hold in a database which can be synchronized
with multiple master ldap servers accross the network to provide them almost
in real-time.
This latest release of the net::MC 1.0 code base, 1.0.2, is now available for download.
